Dream Date July 26th, 2009

Denise has had a crush on Charles since they were in high school. Every men she had dated, she will immediately compare it to Charles manly features, hulking body and shaggy hair. She knew it was unhealthy but she just couldn’t help it. Her friends have told her repeatedly to get over him and she said she would try.

A few months ago, Denise was at a restaurant waiting for her friends to arrive. She was having red wine at the bar just minding her own business when she heard someone say her name. When she looked up, she found herself looking at the most gorgeous hazel eyes she can remember. It was Charles. Charles still looked great, unfortunately for Denise. They talked for a few minutes and Charles even bought her another glass of wine. For once, Denise was glad that her friends were late during dinner. Denise and Charles exchanged numbers and then went on to dinner separately.

A few days later, Denise got a call from Charles, asking her out. She obliged and they went on a date. That night, Denise arrived home early. She took off the gold charm bracelets she was wearing and smiled. Charles was a jerk and Denise was glad to finally move on.

Iridescent Glass Tiles July 25th, 2009

Rainbows have always fascinated man. These phenomena combine beauty and mystery so that it is inevitable that it they should be associated with legends and myths from prehistoric times until today.

You can, however, capture this potent combination and lodge it in your living room, swimming pool, kitchen, or bathroom, thanks to iridescent glass tiles. These types of tiles are made of from 30 to 70% glass. It is this glass component that gives the tiles their iridescence, reflecting lustrous rainbow colors all over the place. Since most, if not all, of the glass come from waste bottles and other glass materials, these tiles are not only enchanting but also eco-friendly.

These tiles come in various shades such as gold, silver, blue, or pink. They are cut into 1″ x 1″ or 1″ x 2″, or in 1″- to 2″-ovals or circles. These are arranged in different designs and glued to either a mesh or paper making installation easy. A set may come in a single shade, or in a combination of different colors. This makes them even more eye-catching. As they reflect light, any bathroom or kitchen will surely come alive.

Beauty and quality have often come at a price. These tiles are no exception, so if you want those rainbows, and perhaps the pot of gold behind them, be ready to make some investment.

Shoes and More Shoes April 21st, 2009

I never thought that I was a shoe addict. I knew I love shoes but I never thought I owned that many. That is, until I cleaned out my closet today. I sorted them according to styles- sandals and pumps on one side while the stilettos, wedges and boots on the other side. I placed my flipflop slippers in the middle. I’m not quite sure where they should be placed.

I noticed that my shoes are an assortment of wonderful rainbow and candy colors ranging from red, blue, white, orange, yellow, pink, green and so much more. Some shoes were made of pure and patent leather, canvass, and plastic among others. Most of my shoes had seen better days while others are seldom used.

Though it breaks my heart to dispose of some of them, these shoes have brought back a lot of wonderful memories. I remember the time when I wore this gold strappy stilettos to a friend’s birthday party. We had such a good time dancing and gossiping that I didn’t come home until 5am the next day. There’s also this pair of shiny black pumps that I wore to my first job interview. I didn’t get the job but I sure looked great that day.

Automatic Everything April 21st, 2009

I wonder what life would be like if everything is automatic. If we imagine what technology can bring us in the next thirty to fifty years, we all expect everything to be more convenient and automated. I can think about a few things I would want to be automated, though it would be exaggerating it. I do want a self-cooking stove or oven which can prepare the ingredients itself too. How about a wonderfully designed shoe that automatically changes colors to suit your mood and outfit? It would probably be like living in the world of Hanna Barbera’s The Jetsons or Disney’s Meet the Robinsons. Buildings just sprout up by themselves; no more waiting and no more building. When you get up in the morning, your bed will automatically fix itself. Wouldn’t that be great?

In today’s modern age, some things are automatic but still needs manual intervention. Like a coffee maker, you can have it automatically brewing coffee but you first need to set the desired brewing time, put it some water and coffee grounds.

We just need to wait a few more years to discover what more our technology can offer us. Right now, we can only be satisfied with all the conveniences that we are already enjoying.

Clear Skin April 20th, 2009

I don’t have a completely flawless skin but I don’t have acne or pimples as well. My ultimate vanity goal is to have a clear skin. In achieving this, I need to have determination. Clear skin just doesn’t appear when you want it to.

No matter how tired I am, I make sure that I remove all traces of my makeup. I use a cotton ball with face cream and wipe the makeup off. I have to repeat the process three to four times to complete get rid of all the color and residues.

I avoid using soap on my face and use mild facial cleansers instead. Soap can leave your skin pretty dry and tight while a facial cleanser moisturizes and cleans the face effectively. After every wash, it is important to use a toner to minimize pores and remove deep seated dirt. Then apply a moisturizer while avoiding the eye area. This area is extremely sensitive and should only be applied with eye cream. It is also essential to exfoliate the face twice a week using a mild exfoliant. This removes dead skin cells and makes skin smoother.

A clear skin is what people see first. Acne, pimple and uneven skin tone ruins one’s appearance. Practicing good hygiene and using right products can help you achieve a clear looking skin.

Vintage wedding gowns are elegant. Even though they were created many years back, its designs are classic and suit most women. These gowns are gaining their popularity thanks to some celebrities who have worn vintage bridal gowns in their own weddings.

Before you buy a specific vintage wedding dress, make sure that you check every inch of the fabric for stains, rips, or tears. Fried Chicken April 20th, 2009

Chicken, like pork and beef, are enjoyed by millions of people. This white meat is can be bought in any grocery store or market. Chicken can be prepared in numerous ways. You can fry it, make soup, roast, grill or top it in pastas.

My all time favourite chicken dish is extra crispy fried chicken with steaming gravy. I scourged numerous recipes online in hopes of creating the ultimate fried chicken. I have found several ones but when I followed the recipes, it was missing that “oomph” that I was looking for.

You don’t have to buy a deep fryer to create crispy fried chicken. You can use a skillet, saucepan or a pot and fill it up with oil. Just make sure that the oil is hot, but not too hot, when you put the chicken in and that it is fully covered with oil.

Until I find that ultimate recipe, I make my fried chicken the old fashioned way. I marinate my chicken in salt, pepper, and chilli. Then, I add eggs and flour to the marinade, making sure that the flour are properly dissolved. The thickness should be just right to fully coat the chicken. Afterwards, I just fry it in hot oil. When it is golden brown, I remove it from the fire and drain the oil with a paper towel.

Dip the fried chicken in gravy and enjoy!

Enjoy your Cheap Family Vacations April 20th, 2009

This year, cheap family vacations are the only way to go. Not only will you enjoy and have a great time with your family but you can save hundreds of dollars as well. We all want the best for our family but the best family vacations doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, what makes the vacation itself fun and memorable is the fact that you spent it together with your family.

The activities that you can do during your cheap family vacations are more or less the same activities that you do when you are spending hundreds of dollars more in a vacation. Instead of swimming in a secluded and expensive resort, why not go to an equally beautiful lake in the nearby state? Flying to your vacation locations are indeed convenient and fast, but it is more fun and adventurous if you drive or rode the train towards your location. You can even see different scenery and animals too.

You don’t even have to spend weeks for a vacation. You can just spend five days or one week maximum. This can prevent boredom or restlessness in smaller kids or impatient teens.

Cheap family vacations are lots of fun. Plan it well by researching and asking friends for opinions. Go cheap and save more.
